Snoring and CPAP
One of the treatments available for
people who have a snoring problem is the CPAP
machine.
In this article, we will explain what a
CPAP machine is, and what exactly it does to help prevent
snoring.
So what is CPAP?
The initials CPAP stand for Continuous
Positive Airway Pressure.
This isn’t a machine you can buy from
your local store – it has to be prescribed by a doctor or sleep
technician.
This is a popular treatment for
sleep apnea, and isn’t often used for snoring problems unless
they also represent a chance of sleep apnea.
What does this CPAP machine do
exactly?
Here’s how it works: When someone with
sleep apnea sleeps, the muscles in their throat relax to such a
degree that it can actually restrict the airflow of their
breathing.
So what a CPAP machine does is deliver
a continuous stream of air into the person’s airways (this is
achieved by the person wearing a mask while they are sleeping).
It uses Continuous Airway Pressure to keep your airway
open.
And this allows the person with sleep
apnea to keep breathing through the night, and also reducing
the snoring.
